He is then shown around the school by Michael, who will become his best friend. So Michael helps him enlist the help of pretty-boy/jerk/model Joey Donner, tricking him into thinking that *he* will get to take Bianca out if he pays someone to take out Kat. His choice: Patrick Verona, a bad-boy with a mysterious reputation–some say he ate a live duck once, others that he lit a state trooper on fire, and even more claim that he had a brief porn career. A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is the story of David (Haley Joel Osment), the first mecha (a futuristic term for a mechanized human being) designed with the ability to love. A couple whose son is in a coma “adopts” David to help them recover from their loss. Naturally, things do not go as planned, and David is forced to leave the mother (Frances O’Connor) he’s been “imprinted” to love, and make his way in the world. Traveling with Teddy, a hi-tech stuffed bear, David escapes the Flesh Fair, where angry humans destroy mechas to “purge artificiality,” and unexpectedly befriends Gigolo Joe (Jude Law in a wry performance), a robot designed to pleasure women. Joe agrees to help David in his quest to become human.
Director Stanley Kubrick originally developed A.I., at one point asking Spielberg to direct it. When Kubrick passed away, Spielberg took the reins. Using a treatment and thousands of drawings commissioned by Kubrick, Spielberg wrote his own screenplay (his first since 1979’s CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND). Osment, perhaps the only pre-teen actor who can effectively convey existential angst, gives a marvelous performance, helping Spielberg create a gorgeous futuristic fairy tale that questions the very nature of what we call life.

As the investigation into Diablo begins, Vetter’s mind becomes clouded by revenge fantasies for his dead wife, and he is soon relinquished of his duties as an officer after a routine bust turns into a bloodbath. Forming a gang of rogue buddies from their days as street punks, Vetter and Hicks decide to risk everything and go above the law to track down the shadowy Diablo.
Director F. Gary Gray (FRIDAY) ensures that Vin Diesel’s action-hero rep is cemented in this violent revenge tale. The fast-paced action builds to a visceral, nail-biting crescendo that is sure to appease any fans of Diesel’s previous thrill-packed movies, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, and XXX.

Dead Set Serious (2008)

This turns the TV show DEAD SET into a true zombie movie. Gone are the dragging, too funny, annoying and over-the-top scenes to present an extraordinary quality horror film from the UK. The idea was simple, the creation not so much, most of all because of technical problems though. Turning DEAD SET into a true zombie movie tries to take all the best horror elements from it and leave all what was distracting from that on the cutting floor. That’s why the audience really meets the Big Brother inmates when Kelly enters the Big Brother house, not before that. The plot has been trimmed for better pacing and the worst over-the-top moments have been removed (most of all those are scenes with Patrick – the producer) as well as dragging conversations or scenes that lead nowhere. By recoloring and correcting the brightness the image quality reflects more of a movie experience, because the original show was incredibly dark and made days almost look like nights.

Jovial comedy Old School sees three thirtysomething friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn) deciding to form a college fraternity. Old School could have been just another string of bad jokes hanging on a flimsy plot, but the script and the cast have energy and just enough grounding in reality–at least, up until the obligatory beat-the-system ending, but by that point you’ll forgive the excesses of this silly, cheerful, and frequently funny movie. Featuring Jeremy Piven and Juliette Lewis, with cameos by Snoop Dog, Andy Dick, and others

Keoma (1976)

Franco Nero is Keoma a “half-breed” loner and gunfighter who after years away returns to his childhood home. When there he discovers the town is run by a greedy landowner and his sadistic bandits, he also comes into conflict with his much despised and vengeful half brothers…
“Keoma” is directed by Enzo G. Castellari (The New Barbarians/Street Law) and it’s an absolutely brilliant film and one of the best westerns ever made. The cinematography is outstanding with beautiful scenery and there are numerous imaginative and high class scenes. You could say there are influences from Leone and Peckinpah but Castellari has a style all of his own and his talent as a director is showcased to the full here. The action sequences are of the highest quality packed with suspense and violence and are enjoyable and exciting. Franco Nero puts in a great powerful performance in the lead and other cast members include William Berger (Sabata), Olga Karlatos (Zombie), Donald O’Brian (Zombie Holocaust) and Woody Strode.

Hence a large number of unemployable social misfits promptly enroll. The academy instructors have the most difficult wave of recruits to train up: they include Laverne Hooks the tiny voiced woman; Karen Thompson the sociopath (Kim Cattrall); Eugene Tackleberry the firearm fan and Larvell Jones the walking sound-effect. Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenburg) is a reluctant cadet of a different kind–he must last the course at the Academy as an alternative to jail. This hilarious motley crew are the last, blundering buffoons you would want as upholders of the law, as your protectors. The crooks never had it so good.

Die Hard (1988)

One of the greatest action movies of the late 1980s, DIE HARD ushered in a new standard for the genre. With the dissolution of the Cold War, both the stereotypical Russian threat (represented in movies such as TOP GUN and RED DAWN) and the destructive egoist (as seen in OCTOPUSSY) became less fearful. With DIE HARD, director John McTiernan introduced Hollywood to a new type of villain: the terrorist entrepreneur. Alan Rickman stars as Hans Gruber, a relentless businessman whose lethal tactics achieve his goals. Unlike most ’80s film villains who committed globally dangerous acts for liberty, genocide, or megalomania, DIE HARD’s Gruber uses guns, explosives, and cunning to storm the Takagi Corporation’s Christmas party and heist millions of dollars from the company. In addition, DIE HARD also saw the development of the clumsy or bad luck hero with John McClane (Bruce Willis), a man in the wrong place at the wrong time who chooses to intervene. Action fans would see this misfit hero archetype again in UNDER SIEGE (Steven Segal) and THE PHANTOM MENACE (Jar Jar Binks). Although DIE HARD contains many action movie cliches (one-liners, pyrotechnics), it also broke new ground in its genre.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Once again, for the fifth year in a row, TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is forced to cover the Groundhog Day ceremonies in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, an assignment he truly despises. But this year something truly bizarre happens after he finishes the report: When he wakes up the next morning, ready to leave, he discovers it’s February 2 all over again. He tries to tell his producer, Rita (Andie MacDowell), what’s happening, but neither she nor anyone else understands; only he remembers that they’ve already lived through Groundhog Day. When the same thing happens the next morning, he thinks he’s going insane and wreaks havoc all through the town. More and more mornings pass, all of them February 2, and all of them with an ever angrier Phil. Desperate to escape, he even tries suicide, but still another February 2 dawns. As he starts realizing that his exploits are not making time march on any quicker, Phil begins to change his behavior, performing a series of lifesaving tasks until he becomes a model citizen, hoping it will be enough to get him out of Punxsutawney forever. Along the way he learns more about the people around him–and himself–than he ever thought possible. The film is extremely well put together by director Harold Ramis, and the script by Danny Rubin and Ramis is sharp and clever. The actors–many of whom have to perform essentially the same scene over and over again, with only subtle differences–is a riot.

From Within (2009)
