In the third season finale the camp turns out to vote, but as Bullock notes, the election may already have been decided. In light of the populace’s mood, Langrishe delays the opening of his theater, and ponders his future in Deadwood. After detouring at Nuttall’s Number ten, Hawkeye arrives at the Gem with “almost 18″ men to complement Wu’s contingent. Alma works out a deal for her claim; Utter receives another body for Hearst; and Harry gets his fire engine. Stubbs reaches out to a frustrated Tolliver, who finds himself with a folded hand as the action heats up. Through Farnum, Hearst issues his conditions for departure, forcing Swearengen to finish what Burns can’t.

With the apparent loss of the Ramones project and with Ari to blame, Vince and the guys begin to look for other agents to represent him. Ari, hearing of Vince’s shopping, fights with all his might to get back the movie. While looking at other agents, Vince realizes they are just too corporate for him and the “scumbag” Ari is the best in the business. However, since Ari cannot get the movie back, he tries to win Vince back with a corporate-style presentation himself. This backfires because the boys find Ari to be just like everyone else now and fire Ari as they walk out of his office.

Bullock holds an impromptu morning meeting to determine which emergencies warrant wiring him in Sturgis, where he and Harry are delivering campaign pitches. The first summons doesn’t take long, as Hearst follows up Alma’s close call with one that’s decidedly more on-target. In the aftermath, Alma takes refuge at the Gem, again, while Trixie decides to take matters into her own hands. Langrishe has a falling out with Hearst, giving him little time to huddle with his new lineup of actors. Dismissing the likelihood of ever seeing 23 mercenaries promised by Hawkeye, Swearengen turns to Wu to deliver more reliable, if not quite weapons-tested, reinforcements from Custer City.

Eric, Ari, and Bob pitch the Ramones film project to the studios which causes a power struggle between Ari and Bob. Turtle wants a pair of limited edition shoes which Vince tries to buy for him. Drama begins filming his pilot.

plans to Martha. Wu is caught in a Pinkerton stampede and delivers a cryptic message, that is solved by the unlikeliest person, to Swearengen. Barrett makes Merrick pay for embarrassing Hearst in “The Pioneer”, while Morgan Earp calls out one of the “Pistoleros”. As night falls, Langrishe mines Deadwood’s talent pool with an amateur-night performance in front of his future theater, financed in part by a “loan” from Alma’s bank.

Aired: 8/6/2006 | Vegas Baby, Vegas!

The gang heads to Vegas for a much-needed break and a $100,000 promotional appearance for Vince. But it turns out that Turtle reaps the benefits from the appearance. Eric gets jealous when Seth Green makes insinuating comments about Sloan. Vince and Ari partner at the tables, but Ari loses it when Vince’s luck ends. Drama lays it on thick with his masseur, leading to an awkward misunderstanding between them.
